Attacks against the US, significantly affected TVR

As the terrorist attacks against the US were taking place on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, television stations all over the world broadcasted these terrible events as they were unfolding.

People everywhere turned to the television for up to date information and news. In the countries where the AGB Group is the common currency for Television Audience Measurement, significant increases in television viewing hours after the event were recorded (compared to the same time slots of the previous Tuesday).

A snap shot of these findings is presented below. The largest increase was in Australia, but audiences in all other countries demonstrated a keen interest as well, as shown below.

Please note though that differences in time of day, hours of broadcasting and number of stations broadcasting continuous live coverage are some of the factors accounting for the differences in ratings for each country.
